A Bike Bus is a group of kids led by adults who ride their bikes to school together along a set route, picking up riders along the way—just like a bus, but on bikes!
It’s a safe, active, and joyful way to get to school while building confidence, independence, and community.
Bike Bus helps reduce traffic, brings neighbors together, and gives kids a healthy, happy start to the day.
It’s easy, to join the bike bus:
Check the Shepardson Bike Bus Route
Start at the beginning
OR hop in anywhere along the route as the bike bus rolls by
Studies show that kids that get a exercise in the morning have better academic performance.
-
The Bike Bus rolls out at 8:20 a.m.
You’re welcome to start at the beginning of the route or hop in anywhere along the way as we ride by.
We recommend arriving a few minutes early so we can roll out on time.
-
Kids should be confident riders and able to start, stop, and ride steadily without assistance in order to safely participate in the Bike Bus.
Scooters, one wheels, and runners are welcome too; if you can keep up we’d love to have you join.
If your kiddo is still learning, bring them along in a bike seat, trailer, or tag-along!
-
Nope! Just check out the route and be ready to join in when the Bike Bus rolls by.
We always love extra grown-up help, too — if you’d like to ride along or volunteer, you can sign up in advance here.
-
Feel free to start at the beginning or join in anywhere along the route as we ride by.

You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. This is all volunteer led - please be patient with response times.

Helmets required for all riders
Arrive a few minutes early so we can roll out on time
Stay with the group and follow volunteer directions
Ride behind the bike leaders — no riding ahead of the group
Younger or still-learning riders are welcome in a Burley, trailer, cargo bike, or bike seat with an adult
Fun pace — not a race!

Here are a few things we recommend for a smooth ride:
A properly fitted helmet
A bike (or scooter) in safe working order
Weather-appropriate clothing
A backpack that is secure and comfortable
Water, if needed
Optional but fun: bells, bike baskets, streamers, or extra Bike Bus spirit ✨
-
If the weather is unsafe — such as heavy rain, snow, icy conditions, or extreme cold — we may cancel the Bike Bus for the day.
However, we will roll out in inclement weather if it is deemed safe to do so.
We’ll share updates through email and/or social media, so make sure you’re signed up to stay in the loop.

Absolutely — and we’d love that!
The more grown-ups riding along, the more fun, visible, and supported the Bike Bus becomes.
Parents, grandparents, guardians, foster parents, and family friends are all welcome to join.

Bike Bus runs best with community support, and there are lots of ways to help:
Ride along with the group
Help keep the group safe at intersections
Cheer from the route
Spread the word to other families
Bring fun things like music, bubbles, or encouragement
Whether you can help once or often, every bit makes a difference.
